2026 Aberdeen Kiltwalk for the Grampian Deaf Children's Society

Graham Bruno is raising money for GDCS

Story

I’m proud to be doing the Aberdeen Kiltwalk to raise funds for the Grampian Deaf Children’s Society and would like to ask if you would consider a donation.

My youngest nephew was identified as being deaf at birth. This began a journey for us as a family to explore what we could do to ensure that he would feel included in whatever we were doing and to give him the best start possible to live life to the full.

This meant learning the basics of British Sign Language (BSL) for everything from basic communication to nursery rhymes! 👋🎶

The first year of the charity's operation has been really busy and has included:

- organising two sets of courses to help teach children and their families with songs, crafts, games and stories! 🎨 📖🎶

- facilitating signed trips for deaf children to see signed performances at the theatre

- several social meetups to bring together deaf children and young people across Aberdeen

On average, 3 babies are born deaf each day in the UK – with around 90% of deaf children being born to hearing parents. The charity is also connecting parents and carers of deaf children, offering an online community for advice and support.

You can check out more by visiting https://gdcs.info - there is also a special highlights page at https://gdcs.info/highlights-of-2025/

Your support helps can help fund more events, courses and activities to support the charity vision of "A world without barriers for every deaf child and young person."

Thanks again! If you’ve got any questions, feel free to pop them in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer!
