As a father to very premature (28wks/2lbs)daughter Jemma, some 42 years ago I had good reason to give thanks to the medical staff and of course the people and organisations who funded essential research to develop the techniques and equipment that supported Jemma and children like them.

Sobering fact: In 1984 only 50% of babies made it at 28 weeks. Its 95% now.

Such an organization is Action Medical Research, who are the leading UK charity dedicated to funding research to help sick and disabled babies, children and young people. Action have been funding medical breakthroughs for 70 years now and have helped to

beat polio (you can google this!)

fight meningitis

prevent stillbirths

develop ultrasound scanning in pregnancy.

They are now driving forward children's research, including in the fight against premature birth and rare diseases.

All this good work takes hard cash, so 23rd - 26th September

I will again be joining colleagues for my 6th 'Ziggurat' cycling networking tour.

This will see around 70 riders from the construction industry cycle 340 miles, and climb 5,700 metres (18700 ft), from Bilbao to Madrid on a 4 day ride.

This is no picnic with 30 hrs in the saddle focussing on climbs.
