In October I'm running the Everton 10k for The Brain Charity, and I'll be honest, right now that feels like a bigger challenge than it should.

I've had a knee injury that's kept me off running for a while, so this isn't the "easy 10k" it might have been a year ago. Taking into account my age 🙈 I'm going to need to properly train for this one, and I'm looking forward to the process of getting there.

The reason I picked this charity is simple. I've visited The Brain Charity's centre in Liverpool and seen first-hand the work they do, particularly supporting people who've had a stroke or a brain injury. It's the kind of practical, patient support that makes a real difference to someone rebuilding their life, and to the families around them too.

The Brain Charity supports people affected by any of the more than 600 conditions that affect the brain, spine and nervous system. They're the only charity in the UK that supports every single one of them, offering practical help, emotional support and social activities to thousands of people each year, along with their families, friends and carers. They also do important work championing neurodiversity and pushing for a society that's more inclusive and free of stigma.
