Story

Running 13.1 miles. The day after my birthday. What could possibly go wrong?

Yep, on Sunday 14 March 2027, I’ll be taking on the inaugural Run South London Half Marathon, raising money for the AFC Wimbledon Foundation.

I have AFC Wimbledon Foundation ambassador and former Dons player Mikey Haswell to thank for roping me in. I’m not entirely sure what I did to deserve that, but here we are.

And yep, the race is the day after my birthday. I’m not sure whether I can claim admirable dedication or fess up to spectacularly poor planning. Probably the latter.

There’s just one small problem. After tearing a calf three times in 2026, I’m currently at the stage where I can just about get round a 5k parkrun without stopping. So 13.1 miles is going to require a fair bit of training. And it’s bloody cold outside. Excellent!

So why the heck am I doing it?

The Foundation does brilliant work across our local community, using sport and education to tackle inequality, improve health and wellbeing, build confidence and create opportunities for people of all ages. It’s something all Wimbledon fans should be proud of.

In short, it makes a real difference to thousands of lives, and I’d like to help it do even more.

So, I’ll be running 13.1 miles (21.1km), probably questioning my life choices somewhere around mile nine, in the hope of raising a decent amount for a very worthwhile cause.

Please donate whatever you can. Every fiver helps the Foundation continue its work and make a lasting difference in our community.

At the risk of becoming Wimbledon’s Poundland Bob Geldof, I realise you guys have helped me fundraise for the flooded pitch and the playing budget in the past. But if you could spare the price of one more of those London cups of coffee for this superb charity, I’d be truly humbled.

As ever, thanks so much for your support.

COYD! 💙💛
