Story
I have spent many years working at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital as a contractor. This has been an eye opener in many ways, seeing the hard working staff each day and the patients who receive such good care at the hospital. I have been on the other side of things as a visitor to family member inpatients on many occasions as well. The new critical care unit in particular holds a special place in my heart as both my parents spent periods of time in the old unit towards the end of their lives. The care provided was exceptional.
I am taking part in this abseil as a challenge to myself hoping to raise funds towards the new critical care unit appeal. The hospital is seeking funds to provide areas for relatives to make the very difficult time spent at the hospital a little easier with a dedicated critical care reception area and relatives room with comfortable seating and also a garden area. Rest rooms for the staff are also very important and part of the money raised will provide comfortable seating in that area.
