Story
Thank you for visiting Graham's Just Giving page.
The London Marathon on 26th April 2026 will mark Graham's 878th day of running every day averaging over 4 miles a day. Once again he will be running for Steps Charity - a leading charity working for all those whose lives are affected by childhood lower limb conditions.
This is a charity close to Graham's heart. In May, 1965, Graham was born with clubfoot, a birth defect which affects one in every thousand .
Surgery to treat this lasted on and off for 5-6 years and for most of his childhood, Graham found himself in and out of hospital and at times unable to walk without support. Walking is often painful, running can be easier than walking. At university during the 1980s Graham decided to try running, and ran a couple of half marathons, often through pain, and at the age of 25 was told by an orthopedic consultant that running was 'wholly inappropriate for a person with your condition'. Undeterred Graham carried on and ran his first marathon in 2008.
Since then he has run well over 30 marathons. Graham’s best running has come in his 50s during which he has run over 12,200 miles so far, averaging over 3miles a day, 100 miles per month in the last decade.
"I consider myself to be one of the lucky ones and though I regularly run through pain, the fact that I can even walk is down to the brilliance of Dr Purser of Lancaster RI in the 1960s. Like most people with clubfoot/talipes I don't take walking for granted - less so running"
More about Steps Charity......
Steps is the leading charity working for all those whose lives are affected by childhood lower limb conditions. Everything we do is about valuing and supporting individuals, families and carers affected by conditions which have an impact on the legs, hips or feet.
We are the only charity which supports the most common and much rarer lower limb conditions.
