Story
On Sunday April 6th 2025, a crack team of Housing pros are going to be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon to raise money for Haemochromatosis UK. This elite unit comprises Ben Townsend, Pamela Sullivan, and Graham Rice.
In April 2024, Graham was diagnosed with a genetic condition called Haemochromatosis. Also known as Iron Overload, it's a condition where the body isn't able to moderate the amount of iron it absorbs and this ends up being stored in your organs. For those of you who are anaemic and wondering where all your iron is, he's got it.
We want to raise awareness of the condition and raise money for Haemochromatosis UK, a fantastic charity whose information and resources are invaluable.
The condition is particularly prevalent in people with Northern European or Celtic ancestry. As many as 1 in 150 people in England and Wales may have the condition but it's severely underdiagnosed because the main symptoms are often mistaken for other conditions.
These are things like fatigue, joint pain (particularly in the hands), brain fog and low mood. If the condition isn't caught and treated the symptoms can progress until they include serious, sometimes fatal, damage to the heart and liver.
If you have any concerns, raise it with your GP or check out Haemochromatosis UK's website here for more information: https://www.haemochromatosis.org.uk/
