Story
In memory of my Dad I’m going to be running 5 marathons in 5 days from the 5th until the 9th July.
My Dad was diagnosed with sarcoma cancer which is a rare cancer of the muscle. The first time round, he was able to have radiotherapy and surgery to have this removed. A few months later, he noticed another lump then after a full body scan we received news that the cancer had come back and had spread. To which the NHS told us they could only offer him palliative care. He battled for 5 years and sadly passed away on the 9th July 2023 at the age of 53.
We were so lucky that during this time and even after he had passed, that we had all of our family and friends around us. We can’t imagine how hard it must be for families who don’t have much support or anyone to turn to in these difficult times. For this reason I’ve decided to raise money for the charity Young Lives vs Cancer. Which I know would mean a lot to my Dad. Young Lives vs Cancer are a charity that helps children and young people aged 0-25 and their families through some of the toughest and most heartbreaking times. They offer grants and financial support to families, their social workers help with everyday challenges, they offer a home from home which helps keep families together whilst receiving treatment and they provide ongoing support to families if they lose a family member. They are a voice for those who feel like they aren’t being heard. And are not afraid to speak up on their behalf. Just an all round amazing charity.
My Dad believed that movement was medicine. He always loved hearing about events I’d signed up to or competed in and would have given anything to come and watch me. Some people might think I’m mad, but this will be nothing compared to what he had to go through every single day. He was a warrior, and I hope I can make him proud while I take him on this journey with me.
All 5 marathon routes will be available to anyone who wants to join in. Absolutely anyone is welcome. And you don’t have to run the full marathon, you can do 5k, 10k, half marathon, whatever you feel comfortable with. You can decide from the routes, which day or days you’d like to join and how far you’d like to run.You can contact either myself, Fran or Dan just so we know who we need to wait for each day.
We would absolutely love to raise as much money as we can, as we know how much this would help so many families. But if your not able to and just want to show support or join in with the runs this would also be amazing.
The marathons will start around 5/6am each day from the meeting points which will be included on the mapped out routes. Further details on this will follow. We will also have stops at different points with hydration drinks, water and snacks for anyone who needs them.
Thankyou so much for taking the time to read and I hope to see some of you over the course of the 5 days!
All donations no matter how small will be much appreciated 💙
