Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Hi my name is Ashlea, my husband Stuart and our 3 boys Kenzi, Tommy and Murray are raising money for Breakthrough T1D Scotland by hosting a family charity Santa sleigh ride in Denny, Scotland. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

This is our 3rd year organising the event - we are funding and hosting our Charity Santa Sleigh Ride in Denny, Falkirk, on Wednesday 17th December @5:30pm. We are raising money for breakthrough T1D, the type 1 diabetes research foundation.

This is a charity which is very close to our hearts. Our son, Tommy, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in August 2021 aged 7. We desperately hope for a cure one day to stop the daily pain and the daily injections to keep him alive.

Type 1 diabetes is a serious lifelong autoimmune condition that occurs when your immune system mistakenly attacks beta cells within the pancreas, which then stops producing insulin. As a result, glucose levels in your blood start to rise, and your body cannot function unless you replace the insulin via injections.

Type 1 diabetes is not caused by poor diet and/or an unhealthy lifestyle. In fact, it isn’t caused by anything that you did or didn’t do. There is nothing that can or could have been done to prevent it and we want to make sure we help educate and research this awful autoimmune condition.

Our event is proving popular with over 200 children visiting our event last year,

We have been asked by many if there is a way to donate if they are unable to attend if they can contribute so that’s why we have set up this page - any help is greatly appreciated.

Until a cure is discovered we will continuously help raise as much money as we possibly can!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.h
