Visiting the Millennium bridges in Great Britain · 22 January 2025

The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity who creates, protects and cares for woodland across the UK. We are working hard to create a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. But we can't do this alone. We can't achieve our vision without you.

Story

EDIT 23 January 2025

I didn't manage the eight bridges on account of the upcoming bad weather and the associated travel disruption, so it's unfair to ask for further donations. As such, this page will close tomorrow, which is the earliest it can be done.

Original message

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On 22 and 23 January 2025, I'll be visiting the eight Millennium bridges in mainland Great Britain. At the time of writing, seven bridges are listed on Wikipedia.

Background

I previously visited these in 2023, but this time I'm adding another in Ayr that's come to my attention. This time around, I'm giving myself the tighter time limit of 36 hours, beginning around 1pm in London on day 1, and finishing the following evening in Ayr.

As far as I can tell, nobody else has done this.

Route

• 22 January 2025: London, York, Gateshead, Stockton-on-Tees.

• 23 January 2025: Salford, Lancaster, Glasgow, Ayr.

Fundraising

Much of the trip will be completed by rail. Although diesel trains are relatively low polluters, just 38% of National Rail track is electrified, meaning emissions are higher than they could be.

So chuck some change towards the Woodland Trust to help offset the carbon generated by this mad project. The initial target has been set to £80, based on a tenner per bridge.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast, and as secure as the lid on a new jar of jam. They won't sell on your details or send any unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the Woodland Trust.
