Story
To celebrate 25 years of marriage and a 60th birthday, and to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), we will cycle our tandem 883km from London to Edinburgh, tracking the route of the Great North Road, the ancient highway between England and Scotland.
We are enormously grateful that an air ambulance rescued our daughter after an accident when very young. We thus have personal experience of the critical care that air ambulance services provide.
The GNAAS rescues hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year throughout north east England, North Yorkshire, Cumbria and southern Scotland. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatments at the scene of the incident whether that is on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre.
However, their mission is at a critical crossroads: they need to invest in new helicopters as their current aircraft are reaching the end of their service life.
We want to help ensure that the GNAAS can continue to save lives across our region. We also want to prove that we are not too old for a challenge like this!
Please help by contributing to this page! Thank you.
