Story
In 2024, our family’s world changed when my dad, Peter, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
MND is a devastating disease that affects the brain and nerves, gradually stopping the muscles from working. It slowly takes away the ability to move, speak, eat and eventually breathe. There is currently no cure.
My dad faced this cruel disease with incredible strength and courage, but sadly we lost him in November 2025 at the age of 69. His loss has left a huge hole in our lives, and this challenge is our way of honouring his memory and helping others facing this terrible illness.
On the 5th May 2026, Blue Watch Greenock will be climbing Ben Nevis wearing full fire kit and breathing apparatus sets. This will be an extremely tough challenge, but it’s nothing compared to the battle faced every day by people living with Motor Neurone Disease.
We will also be supported by our fellow colleagues from Greenock and other stations throughout Inverclyde and Glasgow, all coming together to raise as much money and awareness as possible.
We’re doing this in memory of Peter — a much-loved dad, family man and someone who meant so much to everyone who knew him.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. Thank you for helping us honour my dad’s memory and support those affected by MND.
