Crossbasket House gives families a place to stay while their child is seriously ill in hospital in Glasgow. Children come from all over Scotland and further afield to receive treatment at the children's hospital in Glasgow.

Story

My family, friends and work colleagues will be taking part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk on Sunday 27th April 2025. 17 of us will be taking part in The Mighty Stride and 13 will be taking part in The Wee Wander all to raise money for a charity close to our hearts.

As most of you will be aware my baby Daughter Averey was born on 30/01/24 and became really unwell and ended up in ICU ventilated, she was then transferred to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital undergoing major open heart surgery. Averey spent 8 weeks in hospital having many setbacks along the way. Greg and Nicole were informed that Averey had a bleed in the brain and also Hydrocephalus and needed more surgery to implant a ventriculoperitoneal shunt device which she will have for the rest of her life.

Greg and Nicole have been unsure the effect all this will have on Averey’s development and will cross that bridge when they come to it. We are all just so thankful she fought so hard to survive all this.

Crossbasket House formally Ronald McDonald House in Glasgow, gives families a place to stay while their child is seriously ill in hospital. They help keep families together by providing free, high quality accommodation which is a homely environment and a safe haven for families to have a bit of ‘normality’ and be able to rest away from the stress of the hospital. Crossbasket House is only a few minutes walk from the hospital and crucially each bedroom has a phone linked directly to their child’s ward, so parents can call or be called to the hospital at a moments notice - no matter what time of day or night.

Please help us by donating to this wonderful cause and help us give a little something back for everything this amazing charity done for my family and thousands of other families. xx
