Running the Derby 10K on Sunday began as a personal challenge. Many months ago I set a goal to run a 10K as part of a bigger journey toward completing a marathon in the future.

Along the way I realised this run could also support a cause that makes a real difference.

I am raising money for Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, a charity that gives children from Derby who would not otherwise have the opportunity the chance to experience a holiday by the sea.

I first learned about the charity through my BNI chapter friend Janine Holmes and have been deeply impressed by the difference a simple seaside holiday can make to a child’s life. For many of these children it is their first holiday and sometimes even their first time seeing the sea.
