Story
It’s been a long hard trek to get ready for this one. I hung up my boots after mine & Ed’s last trek to Kili, I got a little wobbly from Altitude, and had a bit of a rough hour at the top. We also sadly lost one of our group. So I promised to give up all these little excursions.
Losing Kris was a massive loss for everyone that knew her, spent time with her, or just enchanted by her. So time to dig out all the gear (actually replace it all as I left most of it in Africa). Kris has left such a legacy and amazing people steering it. Thanks Gi and everyone else behind the scenes.
I’ll be trekking with Ed Field (as always) and Mark Hewett (picked a toughy for his first trek), all in our 50th year. It’s gonna be a tough one (heights), distance, and lack of stuff 15kg for 18 days including rucksacks and sleeping bags, dodgy plane rides, bridges, more heights, and f’ing leeches (wtaf).
We’ve all paid for our gear and the whole trip ourselves, so every penny I raise will be going to Coppafeel.
Couldn’t do any of this without our loving and patient families. Shell, Savannah, Raf, Buddy. Mum, Nephy, Kirky (and their crews). Especially Dad (always there guiding me in the tough moments.
CoppaFeel! are the UK’s only youth focused breast cancer awareness charity, and we’re on a mission to get every 18-24 year old checking their chest.
We educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and encourage them to check their chests regularly, so that if they notice something unusual they are empowered to contact their GP and advocate for themselves. We do this because when diagnosed early and accurately, breast cancer treatments are more effective and survival rates are higher. Early detection truly can save lives.
