Gregor's fundraiser for Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity

Gregor Smith is raising money for Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity
In memory of Cam Harrison

Kingston Break-fest Run 2026 · 8 March 2026 ·

Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC) was founded in 2004 by a mother whose two sons had been diagnosed with leukodystrophy. She recognised the severe lack of information and support available and wanted to make sure that no one had to face leukodystrophy alone.

Story

I'm running this race in memory of Cameron Harrison who died last year. He and his twin brother, Alexander, were diagnosed with ALD, a type of leukodystrophy, when they were children. Sadly, Alexander died shortly after diagnosis. Cameron lived to the age of 29, but for most of the time after diagnosis he required round the clock care. I'm running to raise awareness - as well as funds - so that more can be done to combat this condition. Any contributions will be very well received.

Leukodystrophies are rare genetic disorders that mainly affect the white matter of the central nervous system (ie the brain or spinal cord). They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, most notably children.

Leukodystrophies are usually degenerative, causing symptoms such as impaired mobility, vision, speech and hearing, incontinence, and loss of cognitive skills. In many cases, this sadly means a reduced or limited lifespan.

Your donation will help Alex TLC continue to provide the best support possible to those affected.
