Story

Thank you for visiting our Just Giving page.

Mellon Educate is a worthy charity and I would like to tell you a wee bit about what they do..

The charity was started off by Niall Mellon who went to Africa and decided he had to make changes to the living conditions of the people there. Volunteers from all over the world got on the bandwagon, and together they built thousands of houses, and the charity still continues to do so today. The charity in recent years however has moved to developing an education programme, hence Mellon Educate. Every year in November, hundreds of volunteers raise money throughout the year, and travel to Africa to build a school from scratch - in just one week!!. The building itself though is part of a bigger picture. Local people are employed to help build it, and people within the community get involved in different ways. The school, and the education programme that is then run throughout the year, helps build communities, people, families, relationships, and lives and basically giving the people in the community hope for a better future.

Comment from Gary McMullan

"Anyone who knows me, knows I never have too many spare minutes in my life, but I have decided to take time off the wheel for 1 week in November and offer whatever expertise I can to help this group of amazing people continue to build and educate these communities. I have always wanted to get involved with building projects like this and as soon as I was introduced to this charity, I knew this was a trip I needed to take.  My daughter Emma will also be joining the group.  She too was amazed by the efforts of the charity, the volunteers, and the community itself in coming together to build a school in 1 week!!! She’s excited to get involved in whatever why she can…and will probably show me up in the process!!"

We are asking you to support us in raising money for this year’s building project.  I know times are tough for all, but even the smallest donation will contribute to giving hundreds of children, and a community, a better future.
