Story
We are a group of enthusiastic amateurs who row on the Thames for fun throughout the year. In the same spirit we are taking part in the Great River Race 2025, a 21 mile race from the Isle of Dogs to Richmond on September 20th 2025. It will be one of the longest rows of the year for us, yet small in comparison to the heroics of our favourite charity.
Founded 200 years ago in a London Tavern, the RNLI provide 24-hour search and rescue right around the UK and Ireland. Since the charity was founded, its volunteer crews have launched the lifeboats 380,328 times, saving 144,277 lives, while its lifeguards – who became part of the RNLI’s lifesaving service in 2001 – have responded to 303,030 saving 2,000 lives*. In total, this equates to an average of two lives saved every day for 200 years.
