Story
135 years ago, in the heart of a notorious Victorian slum, six young women founded the settlement that became St Hilda's East. Today, the Community Centre continues to deliver life-changing impact in Tower Hamlets, a borough with poverty levels well above the national average.
With the vision of a world where everyone in the community thrives, feeling connected to those around them and confident in their life prospects, everyone is welcomed to the centre's spaces; engaging activities are offered for all ages from pre-school to Over 50s, promoting social contact and ultimately enriching lives. In the words of one service user, "Coming to St Hilda's means everything - company and joy".
This wouldn't be possible without the help of friends and supporters who are aiming to raise £135,000 in the 135th anniversary year towards replacing a defunct boiler and funding the core costs of keeping the services running.
