We lost Mum this year in such tragic circumstances, one of the things I have found so hard to come to terms with, is she was only just finding her own feet and getting her own life back, when it was so cruelly taken from her.

Mum spent, what was to be all of her retirement, bar a few short months, caring for my father. Mum lost her own father to dementia and then had to experience watching the decline of her husband. As a family we tried to rally around, to add support but the large majority of the stress, fell on Mum's shoulders.

Bearing witness to such a disease can make you feel useless. There have been a few times I have walked miles, for my own memories of my Grandfather and my Father. Raising money for Alzheimer's and Dementia charities to just feel I was doing something. In Mum's memory, I wanted to raise money for the carers of those with Dementia.

I will be walking the length of Hadrian's Wall, 89miles from England's North West Coast to East Coast, through my Mum's childhood home and along pathways we walked as a family, in my childhood, and after 5 days, I should arrive to Tynemouth.
