Somali Midwife Support Programme - Reduce Maternal & Infant Death

Hafsa Abdullahi is raising money for African Relief Fund

The Big Half 2026 · 6 September 2026 ·

Help talented Somali girls become nurses and midwives. Your support funds scholarships, saves mothers and babies, and strengthens healthcare in communities across Somalia

Story

Somalia has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world.

• Maternal mortality: 692 deaths per 100,000 live births

• Infant mortality: 85 deaths per 1,000 live births

Many deaths are preventable, caused by lack of access to trained healthcare professionals, particularly female nurses and midwives who are crucial in delivering safe maternal and child care.

The Solution: Education & Training

African Relief Fund is launching a scholarship program to train 25 talented Somali girls from low-income families as nurses and midwives. By equipping them with professional skills, they will provide life-saving care in both urban and rural areas, reducing deaths during childbirth and improving long-term community health.

I will be taking part in The Big Half Marathon on the 6th September to raise money and awareness for this amazing cause and would greatly appreciate your support 🩵
