Story

HAIR TODAY GONE TOMORROW

Hello my name is Helen and I have worked at Hexham Priory School for 9 years and I’m going to be shaving my hair off on Friday 22nd December to raise funds for Friends of Hexham Priory School.

Hexham Priory School is a special school in West Northumberland for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with severe, profound and multiple learning disabilities.  Our pupils make our job, we have the most wonderful pupils that we never under estimate. Our pupils need support to regulate to be ready to learn. As part of their regulation, we need to take their sensory needs in to consideration.  We are looking to develop our sensory movement room. We are looking to raise £4000 to develop our room and create Stable and rigid metal construction made in the form of a booth – stand, equipped with two movable beams allowing the installation of devices for sensory integration therapy. It is made up of different components; The swing is used during a wide range of exercises we deal with during sensory integration therapy classes. It shapes the mutual coordination, orientation in space. You can use it for exercises with traffic planning or stability development. It provides new motion sensations related to the position of the exercises. The circular swing thanks to its shape facilitates “access” to the exercising child, which is of great importance during sensory integration therapy. It enables forward and backward linear movement and sideways movement. It allows you to carry out exercises stimulating the vestibular system – balance, visual and action coordination, orientation in space and general physical fitness. Rocking in a hammock calms down, relaxes and develops the ability to focus. Children who have problems with concentration will find it easier to focus on different activities while sitting in a hammock chair. While rocking or rotating in a hammock, you can perform various types of exercises, eg in the field of auditory perception, differentiation of sounds, etc. Light rocking also has a calming and stimulating effect. https://www.sensesensory.co.uk/product-page/sensory-integration-therapy-cabin-complete-set/
