Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
I've been working at The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) for a number of years and had the privilege of communicating how our research has made a difference for people with cancer in the UK and around the world.
While I've worked at the ICR, drugs have been approved by regulators and made available on the NHS that were made possible by our laboratory and clinical research. Radiotherapy has become more accurate and patients need fewer treatments overall thanks to evidence from trials led and managed by the ICR's researchers. And genetic discoveries have been made that will lead to earlier diagnosis and more personalised cancer treatment.
I can confidently say there are very few (if any) academic institutions making such a big difference for people with cancer -- now and into the future. I've been lucky enough to meet some of those people and it's been incredibly motivating. But the ICR can't keep making a difference without the generous support of the public.
I've never been sporty but over the past few years, to be slightly less unhealthy, I've done Couch to 5k and been able to run more than 10k. I now want to run further than I have before and try to complete a half marathon -- hopefully you'd consider donating to the ICR's research to motivate me as I run too far for my ageing knees.
