Story
The MileShyClub are an inclusive, not-for-profit running & walking club who also run a separate, dedicated mental health group. The work MileShy do is incredible - the coaches are the best people you’ll meet, they consistently go above and beyond to ensure #noonegetsleftbehind 🐝 💛.
In 2025, I started my running journey with MileShy when I signed up to their couch to 5k programme. For almost a year, I’d dismissed my GP’s recommendation of running to help with burnout recovery. One night, I was ‘doom scrolling’ and came across a post for a Trafford beginner’s couch to 5k run group so I decided to give it a whirl (namely so I could tell the GP I’ve made an effort). I genuinely didn’t think I’d make it to the end of the programme - if you know me, you know I can’t stick at a hobby for long without losing interest. Much to my surprise, I made it to the end of the programme and now I’m embarking on my biggest challenge yet - a half marathon *gulp*.
Without MileShy, I wouldn’t be running and my burnout recovery would look very different. So, to give back to the club that has supported me since day one, I’m running the Manchester Half Marathon on 4th October 2026 to raise funds for them. All donations & well wishes mean the world 🫶🏼.
Why the MCR Half Marathon?
It’s ‘home turf’ for me 🐝 .
How do we keep up to date with your journey?👟
Taking on a half marathon is a questionable decision considering I’m woefully inconsistent at staying consistent (and focused) so training for this one will be a big ol’ challenge. Want to see if I’m thriving or just about surviving with my training? Give me a follow on Instagram @HalfMarathonHope and buckle in for the good, the bad & the inevitable panic.
P.S., take this as your sign to join one of 15 MileShy clubs across Greater Manchester. Having ‘lived experience’ of it, you won’t regret it 😉.
