Story
We’re Laura, Fiona, Jenny and Hollie and between us we’ve had or have 9 children who attend or have attended St Nicolas CE Primary School in Portslade, Brighton. We love our school and so we’ve decided to run the Brighton Half Marathon in support of St Nicolas’s PTA.
So far this year the PTA, under the leadership of the school, have funded new laptops, a climbing frame, we’ve renewed licences and support the library book fund. However, that’s not enough and we’d love for you to support us in any way you can in helping St Nic’s staff and school to continue to provide the best quality teaching they can.
As Andy Richbell, our Headteacher explains “The Government claims that there is more money in education but there are also more children. National Insurance and pension costs are rising, families are feeling the financial squeeze. Primary schools in Brighton and Hove are facing staff cuts, which leads to higher workloads for teachers and not being able to replace equipment which breaks or offering free afterschool clubs. When the police and NHS have less money, they solve fewer crimes or do fewer operations, but we don’t have the option to teach fewer children.”
Running a school is a marathon, you need endurance, some obstinance and a lot of help from your friends to support you.
