Story
On 18th August, I’m holding a bake sale at The Hive to raise money for Dedicated to Dachshunds, a charity that has become incredibly close to my heart.
My dachshund, Hank, has had a very difficult nine months. Since November 2025, he has undergone three spinal surgeries due to IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease), a spinal condition that can cause severe pain, loss of mobility and, in some cases, paralysis.
At one point, Hank was temporarily paralysed in his back legs and unable to walk. He has spent months on strict crate rest recovering from surgery, and it has been an incredibly tough journey.
Throughout Hank’s recovery, Dedicated to Dachshunds has been an amazing source of support, advice and practical help. They loaned Hank custom-made support slings and a specialist stroller, allowing him to get outside for some fresh air while he was unable to walk. It turns out finding equipment for a dog that’s 90% sausage and 10% legs isn’t always easy!
Hank is now seven weeks post-op from his third surgery and is making fantastic progress. Although he’s still on strict crate rest, he’s gradually regaining his strength and mobility and becoming more like himself every day. ❤️
Dedicated to Dachshunds is a volunteer-led charity that supports dachshunds affected by IVDD and their families, providing advice, guidance and specialist equipment such as support slings, strollers, protective boots and wheelchairs.
After everything they’ve done for Hank, I’d love to give something back and help them continue supporting more dachshunds and their families.
If you’re able to donate, bake something for the sale or share this page, I’d be incredibly grateful.
Every penny raised will help this wonderful charity continue to support more sausages like Hank. 🐾❤️
Thank you so much for your support!
