Hanna's fundraiser for Spectrum Gaming

Hanna Venton-Platz is raising money for Spectrum Gaming

Swim Challenge · 1 June 2025

This June, we invite you to join us for our month-long fundraising event where players, creators, and challengers of all kinds take on epic quests (big or small!) to raise money for Spectrum Gaming! What quest will you choose?

Story

In June I will be swimming 42 miles (the distance across the channel to France ...and back!) in my local swimming pool to raise money for Spectrum Gaming - This will mean swimming the equivalent of 1.5 miles (92 lengths) every day in June!

What do Spectrum Gaming do?

Spectrum Gaming provide safe (online and face to face) spaces, supervised by trusted neurodivergent adults, where autistic young people can connect over shared interests and experiences. Their advocacy projects have created a movement that aims to positively influence society and bring strategic change to meet the needs of autistic youth across the UK. Some examples of recent work are Autism Understood, a website about autism for autistic young people https://autismunderstood.co.uk/ and the huge Barriers to Education project!

Spectrum Gaming's Impact:

At the point of joining SG many of the young people have been struggling for years in unsuitable school environments, feeling isolated, experiencing mental health challenges, burnout, and suicidal thoughts. Many of these young people haven't left their bedrooms or spoken to anyone outside their families for years. As a result of engaging with their services, young people:

- Have an increased acceptance and understanding of autism

- Improve connections with others (making friends, better relationships with family members)

- Feel able to re-engage with school and other services

- Experience increased happiness

Why am I fundraising for Spectrum Gaming?

Working for Spectrum Gaming I am lucky enough to witness the direct impact that the online community and meet ups have on the lives of autistic young people. I also get to see the hard work that staff and young people put into projects that hope to prevent distress and trauma for future generations of autistic people.

Your donation means Spectrum Gaming will be able to continue providing a safe community space for autistic young people and working with them to fight for a world that works for them!
