On Sunday 24th November, I will be running the Norwich Half Marathon to fundraise for Norwich Samaritans and in memory of my Nana Pam, who passed away in 2022.

Nana Pam worked with Norwich Samaritans for over 40 years and when she started volunteering, there was no internet and no mobile phones. She witnessed so much change in how the charity delivers its vital support to those in distress, and saw first-hand just how important the service is. We miss her every day, but it brings us great comfort to know how many people she helped - she was so committed to helping people get through times of distress.

In 2023, Norwich Samaritans took 30,000 calls for help, replied to 1,600 emails, and took 1,500 online chats. On average, it costs £76,650 to run the Norwich branch every year, so donations are so important.

For years, when my Nana said, “I’m popping out to Sam’s”, my cousin thought she was off to see a friend called Sam, and I feel like that's quite fitting. 💚
