Manchester Marathon for Mental Health

adidas Manchester Marathon 2024 · 14 April 2024 ·
A little late to the game with this page as I have been umming and ahhing about who or what to raise money for or whether I even should considering the cost of living nowadays and not wanting to put any pressure or expectation on anyone to sponsor me - especially as completing the marathon will be an achievement in itself. However, I have decided that I would like to raise money for Selfhelp.
My reasoning for this is that at the beginning of this year, I lost one of my best friends - Steve. It’s no secret that I struggle with my mental health, but when he passed, this had a detrimental effect on my mental health. If you were lucky enough to know him, you would know that he was not only light, laughter and an all round amazing human being, but also the most caring and supportive person. Whenever I had a wobble, he was always there on the other end of the phone. When he passed, Selfhelp (along with my wonderful friends and family) were then there at the other end of the phone.
When I found out I was doing the marathon and I expressed my concern (cos let’s face it, I drink like a fish and smoke like a chimney!) Steve said to me ‘Hannah you’re one of those people that when they put their mind to something, you’ll achieve it’. So this marathon isnt only for me, and not only for Steve, but for anyone who has ever suffered from mental health issues or knows someone that has. I would love to cross the finish line knowing that I have raised money for such a wonderful cause.
