hannah's fundraiser for Tariro - Hope for Youth in Zimbabwe

hannah francis is raising money for Tariro - Hope for Youth in Zimbabwe

John of groats - lands end · 31 August 2026

The founders of Tariro UK decided to raise money to fund projects supporting individual children in family-like environments, fulfilling their different needs through school and into adulthood, ensuring all young people are cared for until they can care for themselves.

Story

Tariro UK supports young people in Zimbabwe from childhood into adulthood. Aid in Zimbabwe has tended to focus on younger children, who are then left to fend for themselves as teenagers in a country where unemployment is estimated at 80–90%. Tariro takes the opposite approach: rather than large-scale, short-term programmes, it funds individual young people in family-like homes and stays with them through school and into adult life, until they can care for themselves. Donations pay for rent on the house in Harare, groceries, school fees, uniforms and transport, weekly counselling, and solar lamps so children in rural areas without electricity can still study after dark — alongside chickens, pigs and vegetable growing that teach a trade and bring in their own income. Since 2009 the number of young people supported has grown from 10 to over 100, and 98.3% of every donation goes to the projects in Zimbabwe.
