Story

🌅 Sunrise to Sunset… I’m taking on 17 hours. 🌅

On 18th June, I’ll be doing the Summer Solstice Walking Challenge- walking from sunrise right through to sunset (around 17 hours 😅).

I’m doing this to raise money for the East Lancashire Down’s Syndrome Support Group, a charity I’m incredibly proud to be part of. The support they give to families and individuals is genuinely life-changing, and I see first-hand just how much it means 💙

The walk is also in collaboration with Lancashire Mind, which makes this challenge feel even more personal to me. I’ve been diagnosed with perinatal OCD, and it’s something I deal with every single day. Some days are manageable… others are really not. It can be exhausting, overwhelming, and at times quite isolating.

So the idea of walking for 17 hours, with a lot of that time just me and my thoughts, is honestly a huge challenge. But that’s also why I’m doing it.

Because both of these charities represent support, understanding, and community; whether that’s for families navigating life with Down’s syndrome, or for people like me trying to manage mental health struggles that aren’t always visible.

This walk isn’t just about the time and distance, it’s about:

💙 Supporting a charity that does incredible, hands-on work

🧠 Standing with a mental health charity that helps people through their hardest moments

🚶‍♀️ Proving to myself that I can keep going, even when it’s tough

I’ll be doing it rain or shine 🌧️☀️ (let’s be honest… probably rain, it’s June in Lancashire 😄).

If you’re able to sponsor me, even just a small amount, it would mean so much, every donation helps these charities continue the work that matters so much to so many people.

And if you can’t donate, a share or a bit of encouragement will go a long way on the day 💙

Thank you so much for your support!! I’ll be thinking of all of you when my legs start to question my life choices halfway through 😂

Our members are delighted to be partnering with Lancashire Mind dedicating one of the longest day of the year to an incredible feat of endurance walking from 4.30am til 9.30am! That's 17 hours walking around a track, pushing physical and mental limits and proving you can put one step in front of another when you don't think you possibly can any more!

Mental health is an important topic to all our members, parents, carers, siblings and other family members alike, and it is great to be able to raise awareness and support, alongside 11 other local charities.

We are also using this challenge to raise much needed funds for our charity, supporting members with Down's Syndrome across East Lancs and beyond, through family and member social groups and peer support in particular.
