Story
On 1st September 2025, surrounded by myself, my mum and 3 brothers at home, my wonderful and beloved dad passed away from Lung Cancer without having ever smoked and being extremely fit. To say my Dad put up a tremendous fight is an understatement. Determined as he was, he was able to meet his 9th grandchild, my son Douglas Martin, who was born 2 days before he died. His loss is simply unbearable. I adored him.
4 months later, on 9th January 2026, my beautiful nanna passed away at home, surrounded by her children and great grandchildren. My nanna was as glamorous as could be, aptly named by my grandad as “the boss”. We all miss her greatly.
The last year has been extremely hard, and the loss suffered immeasurable, but those final weeks and months of my dad and nanna’s lives were made so much more comfortable by the care, safety and compassion of those at City Hospice. To do what they do every day is nothing short of a miracle and I will be forever thankful for how they helped my family and made it possible for my dad and nanna to stay home during their final moments.
I am running the Cardiff Half Marathon on 4th October to raise money for City Hospice. City Hospice is a charity which needs to raise £3 Million each year to continue to provide medical and nursing care for patients facing a life limiting illness, including end of life care, and support to their families.
I would be hugely grateful of your support.
