Story
On October 13th, I’ll be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon with a very special goal in mind. I’m raising money to make crucial improvements to the room and garden where families stay after the devastating loss of a baby.
Sadly, baby loss is far more common than many realise. In the UK:
- 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage, often leaving families grieving in silence
- Around 1 in every 225 pregnancies ends in stillbirth, a heartbreaking and unexpected loss.
- Thousands of families face the unimaginable reality of neonatal death, where a baby passes away within the first 28 days of life.
This space is more than just a room. It provides families with a quiet and private sanctuary, allowing them to spend precious time with their baby and begin to process the enormity of their loss. It’s a place for reflection, for saying goodbye, and for finding the strength to face what comes next. For many, it is the first and only place where they can create memories with their baby, and I believe it deserves to be as comforting and supportive as possible.
By improving this room and the attached garden, we can create a more peaceful, calming environment where families can take the time they need. Whether it’s a little more time to hold their baby, or simply to sit quietly in the garden, these moments are invaluable in helping families through one of the most difficult times in their lives.
I am running this half marathon in honor of the families I have had the privilege to support, and I need your help to make this space even more meaningful. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly towards making the room and garden a more comforting, nurturing environment.
Thank you for supporting me and for helping to create a space where families can find some peace during an incredibly painful time.
