I'm running the iconic London Marathon in aid of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity.

Story

Hi, my name is Hannah!

Here at Royal Cornwall Hospital, I am the Ward Sister of St Mawes Unit, which specialises in Colorectal and General Surgery.

RCHT is the only hospital in Cornwall that provides both elective and emergency major surgery. We care for patients from all over the county with a variety of specialist and complex conditions; it’s never been more important to modernise the way we deliver our surgical care.

I have been given the opportunity to run the London Marathon in 2026 to raise money for two of RCHT's great causes, the Surgical Robotic Fund and the Gastrointestinal (GI) Charity.

Robotic-assisted surgery has shown significant evidence of improvement for patient outcomes and the efficiency of hospitals.

These include:

- Patient Outcomes: Greater precision and smaller incisions, reduction in risk of complications and infections; faster recovery times.

- Cutting Edge Technology: Expands surgical capabilities locally so our patients don't have to travel away from Cornwall to get their care.

- Cost Benefit: Reduces hospital stays, fewer readmissions and less complications.

Over 100 hospitals in the UK have robotic-assisted surgical systems in use and I would love RCHT to become one of them.

The GI charity is also an excellent cause that continues to support our nursing and medical teams with ongoing training, education and research opportunities to help strive for gold-standard and evidence-based care.

The furthest I have ever run is a half marathon distance, so running the London Marathon will be my toughest challenge yet - but it's one I am incredibly excited and determined to take on.

Thank you for taking the time to read and for your kind support!
