Story

Sarah and Hannah are participating in the Smash Sherwood 10K on 29th June 2025. This event is intended to raise funds for the Lung Cancer Foundation 🩵

In September 2024, Hannah's father, Dave received the diagnosis of lung cancer in his left lung. This was a really tough time for all of the family, we didn’t know what to expect, how severe it was and how we are all going to get through this together. Dave had three rounds of chemotherapy which caused complications along the way. Following the completion of his chemotherapy treatment, Dave underwent a lobectomy on 24th March, during which the lower lobe of his left lung was removed. On the 24th April we had the most amazing news that he is now CANCER FREE!! ❤️💪🏼 The cancerous cells have been removed and he will be put on the 5 year path.

Cancer affects 1 in 2 people in the UK and 3 million people are living with cancer today. Men and women. Young and old. Smoker and non-smoker. Lung cancer can affect anyone.

We need everyone to be aware of this and take note of any potential symptoms they have – from a persistent cough to shoulder pain – because when lung cancer is caught early, it is easier to treat and possible to cure.

Let’s kick cancers butt together 💪🏼

At Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, it is our mission to ensure everyone diagnosed with lung cancer can live well with the disease for as long as possible.

For the past three decades, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation has been the driving force behind lung cancer research, investing millions of pounds into the early detection of the disease. We have done this, and will continue to do this, because we know if lung cancer is caught early, curative treatment is possible.
