Hannah's fundraiser for Peaches Womb Cancer Trust

Hannah S is raising money for Peaches Womb Cancer Trust

10k run · 27 September 2026

Peaches Womb Cancer Trust was founded in 2020 by a team of enthusiastic and dedicated researchers, doctors and nurses based at St. Mary’s Hospital in Manchester. Our aim is to preserve the health and improve the experience of those with or at risk of womb cancer and their families.

Story

Last year, age 41 I had womb cancer. I had been worried for some time about a change in my menstrual cycle. It took me a long while to be seen as no-one else shared my concern.

After my hysteroscopy and biopsy I was warned my womb looked unhealthy and to prepare for a hysterectomy. They sent my biopsy off as urgent. After a longer wait that expected, during which I half convinced myself that silence was a good sign. The news it was endometrial cancer.

Despite the long wait to be seen, I had only 5 days from the news to prepare for a total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. As a single parent carer this was a lot to process.

After surgery there was a lot of time to think, process and worry. It was a lonely time and it felt as though I was watching everyone live their lives through frosted glass.

I was 'lucky' they removed all my cancer grade 1 stage 1. During this time I was trying to find support and information. I needed to find others like me, to find people who knew how I felt, without my needing to find the words. And I found Peaches womb cancer trust. They provided online support groups and it was such a light in dark moments. To know I wasn't on my own with it.

But surgical menopause has been a process to work through. Returning to exercise has been slow. I am on a low dose of HRT, but I still get some joint pain and I tire easier, I have to pace myself better.

I still attend the group. And I believe that I am in a better place because of it. I want them to be there for all women who go through this.

So I am aiming to do a 10k run in September. It may just be me by myself or I may find an event to join in. But I will post the run when I complete it. If you are in a position to donate towards this cause I would be truly grateful.

I am also grateful to all those who supported me and helped me day to day too. If I could do a sponsored run for you guys too I would!
