Story
On Saturday 12th September 2026, a team of 20 of us are taking on the YR WYDDFA Triathlon Challenge to raise much needed funds for a small, local charity - Anthony Davies Child Bereavement. The charity provides vital support for widows and widowers with young children, just like me and Chris, who are both taking on the triathlon challenge.
For anyone reading this who doesn’t know me (Han), my husband Callum died suddenly two years ago from an undiagnosed brain tumour at the age of 35 leaving behind our two babies, Caleb who was 3 years old and Mayla who was just 16 months old. I was desperate for some help so reached out to 6 different charities who all told me they don’t work with children under 5 (as if they don’t suffer?!) and that’s when a friend discovered and introduced me to the Anthony Davies Bereavement Charity.
For anyone reading this who doesn’t know Chris, his wife Hannah passed away just over six years ago after an 11 month battle with cancer at the age of 31. Their son Frankie had literally just turned 3. Chris has been dealing with his grief whilst raising Frankie for the last 5 years without any support, until last year, when he finally was introduced to the Anthony Davies Bereavement Charity.
The charity’s founder Lisa is just a normal girl who heartbreakingly became a young widow herself when her husband Anthony died, and their daughter Georgia was 2 years old. Like us, she found there was no support out there for young children who had lost a parent, so whilst grieving, she trained as an Early Childhood ACES practitioner and a Level 3 Counsellor and then, courageously, set up the charity in her husband’s name.
The charity provides - A daily and constant supportive outlet with real advice and practical tools; Monthly Young Widow Support Groups; Monthly Stay & Play sessions; One to One support; Meditation sessions and Dealing with Grief courses for both the children and the widowed parents; Days out for the children and widowed parents to enjoy together as a safe, non-triggering group; and much, much more!
Chris and I know first hand the impact and difference this charity is making to our kids, to us, and to our friends in the group, and this is why we decided to take on this challenge and give back to Lisa and the charity. To say Lisa and the charity have been a lifeline to us all would be the biggest understatement but the charity relies on donations and heartbreakingly the need for her support is greater than ever. Money raised will go towards helping Lisa hopefully employ a qualified staff member to assist her to continue to support the group, especially the children.
The challenge is a ‘triathlon with a twist’ - 15km Cycle, 3km Kayak and a 15km Hike (up and back down Mount Snowdon). Our team of 20 includes me, Chris, and some super special best friends and family who wanted to help us take on this challenge as they too have seen the impact and how important the support from the charity is, for both us and our kids.
If you would like to sponsor us and help Lisa continue the unbelievable work she is doing, then any amount will be hugely appreciated. If you are unable to support financially, then we would be so grateful if you could share this page as a link with your family and friends to help us reach our target.
Thank you so much, from the ADB Triathlon Team - Ali, Ashton, Ben, Chris, Claudia, Danielle, Han, Hannah K, James, Joe, Lauren, Macca, Maia, Mark, Matty, Mer, Nutty, Paul, Sian & Tom xx
