Story
Thank you for taking time to visit my JustGiving page.
I can’t believe it has been 10 years since I graduated from university with my degree in Acupuncture. 10 years! I am ever so grateful to a wonderful lady and family friend; Pauline, who motivated me to enrol. I am truly blessed and can’t imagine where I would be or who I would be without that guidance.
Pauline passed away from early onset dementia far too young, and I am hoping to run this Great North Run in her honour as a thank you and therefore raise money for Alzheimers UK.
The Challenge
I have signed up to the AJ BELL Great North Run in September… (that is 3 months away today).
I would say 5k is a comfortable distance, so 21k seems a little far. I’m already a few weeks into my training, because I want to enjoy the experience AS WELL as hoping to crack the two hour mark this time. (two hours of running sounds brutal).
I have already visited a chiropractor and a physiotherapist for running related aches and pains, so fingers crossed the rest of the training will be okay.
The Charity
In the UK there are over 70,000 people living with young onset dementia, where symptoms begin before the age of 65 and this is just one of the many types of dementia.
Most people have someone in their lives that have struggled with some form of dementia, with it affecting approximately 1 in 14 people over the age of 65. They, and likely you, know that it is not only how you lose that person but also how brutal the ending can be. Your support is funding pioneering dementia research that will bring us closer to a cure.
IN FACT… the first treatments that can slow Alzheimer’s disease are NOW on the horizon.
So please; consider donating to this wonderful cause. Even £1 makes a difference! 😊
