Hannah's fundraiser for Level Centre

Derbyshire Dale Trail Run Half Marathon (21.5km) · 13 September 2026

LEVEL Centre is a small, rurally based charity. We are a contemporary arts hub for the learning disabled and disabled community working with visual, performing and digital arts. We have a purpose-built RIBA award winning accessible building in the heart of Derbyshire that opened in 2008. We are pioneers in accessible interactive digital installations and host a free year-round programme that’s open to the public. We commission and support disabled creatives, offering opportunities to develop their practice at all stages of their career. We run weekly onsite performing arts and visual arts classes for learning disabled adults and creative workshops for young people who are autistic/neurodiverse, creating artists of the future. We produce an annual sensory arts festival for audiences with Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). We collaborate with day centres, schools and the wider community. For many, what we offer is a lifeline. For parents and carers we provide respite. For participants we offer activities that bring them joy. When they come to Level, participants are respected as artists in their own right and encouraged to develop friendships, social skills and a sense of community - important for supporting their wellbeing and combating loneliness. Everything we do has a value, our support goes beyond creativity offering experiences that make a difference.

Story

On the 13th September 2026, I will be running the Derbyshire Dales Trail Run Half Marathon alongside my uncle to raise money for the Level Centre in Rowsley, Derbyshire.

The Level Centre is contemporary arts organisation that creates accessible, sensory and digital arts experiences for people of all abilities, ensuring everyone can engage creatively. Known for its calm, contemporary environment and innovative installations, the centre offers workshops, exhibitions, open days and artist development opportunities that champion creativity for everyone.

Level works with disabled creatives specialising in visual, digital and performing arts. The centre also exhibits visual art and digital installations that are free to visit. The Level Centre's work plays a vital role in making high‑quality arts engagement fully inclusive within the Derbyshire community.

Level has given me the opportunity to work closely with SEND and neurodivergent participants, understanding their specific needs and this experience has helped me to understand creativity in a new light.
