Story

In 2015, I gave birth to the most beautiful little girl, Emmie-Rose. Because I have Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), a genetic condition that causes tumours to grow on nerve endings and can lead to many other complex health problems, we chose to have her tested at birth using cord blood. Just weeks after welcoming her into the world, we were told she had inherited NF1 too.

From that moment, our lives became filled with uncertainty.

Fast forward eleven years, and Emmie-Rose continues to amaze us every single day. She has spent more than eight years on and off chemotherapy, endured countless hospital appointments and admissions, and lost the sight in one eye because of an optic pathway glioma. She has faced more in her young life than most adults ever will, yet she continues to face every challenge with a smile that lights up every room, a heart full of kindness, and a strength that inspires everyone who meets her.

When you’re living with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition, it’s easy for childhood to become consumed by hospitals, treatments and fear. But that’s where Chestnut Tree House changed everything.

They didn’t just care for Emmie-Rose; they gave her the chance to simply be a child again. Through respite stays, activity days and unforgettable experiences, they created moments filled with laughter, adventure and happiness when we needed them most. They also have helped our whole family, offering support, understanding and somewhere we never had to explain how hard things could be. They gave us precious memories during some of our hardest days, and for that, we will be forever grateful.

Now it’s my turn to give something back.

On 25 April 2027, I’ll be taking on the London Marathon. If you know me, you’ll know I’m definitely not a runner! So 26.2 miles feels completely terrifying. There will be early mornings, aching legs, blisters, probably a few lost toenails, and moments where I’ll question why I signed up.

But every single mile will be for Emmie-Rose.

It will be for every child whose life has been turned upside down by illness. For every exhausted parent trying to stay strong. And for every family who has found hope, comfort and joy through the incredible team at Chestnut Tree House.

If you’re able to donate whether it’s £1 or £100 you’ll be helping Chestnut Tree House continue providing exceptional care, unforgettable memories and vital support to families just like ours.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in me, cheering me on, and supporting a charity that has given my family more than I could ever put into words.

Every donation, every share, and every message of encouragement will carry me one step closer to that finish line.

Thank you 💛
