Around the world, three people are diagnosed with encephalitis (brain inflammation) every minute. Caused by infection or autoimmune diseases, it is an acutely serious condition with high mortality rates, and it leaves many survivors with an acquired brain injury. It can also affect anyone - like my brother-in-law Ryan, who was just 30 when he fell ill.

Luckily, Ryan has since recovered well. But for some reason, he's started making me go running with him. For my "birthday present" this year he signed us up for this 10km. Please give generously to a very worthy cause, and take the edge off this indignity.
