Story
Last year I walked 26 miles for Alzheimer’s Society.
It took me 10 hours. Ten long, emotional, painful hours — and when I crossed that finish line, I was exhausted, proud and absolutely convinced I’d achieved something I would remember forever.
So naturally… I’ve decided to do it all over again. ❤️🤦🏼♀️
Only this time, I want to beat those 10 hours. But more importantly, I want to raise even more money.
Because unfortunately, Alzheimer’s hasn’t gone away just because my trek finished.
This horrible disease has completely changed our lives.
Watching my mum live with Alzheimer’s is something I still struggle to put into words. It’s cruel. It doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed — it ripples through an entire family.
You grieve for someone who is still here. You worry about what the future holds. You miss the person they were while loving the person they still are. And there are moments when the sadness, fear and helplessness can feel completely overwhelming.
Alzheimer’s has changed my mum’s life, but it has changed mine too.
That’s why I’m walking again.
I can’t cure my mum. I can’t turn back the clock and give us our old life back. But I can do something.
I can put one foot in front of the other for 26 miles.
I can push myself when my legs hurt.
I can try to beat my 10-hour time.
And I can raise every single penny I possibly can to help fund research, support families living through this disease and hopefully move us closer to a future where other families don’t have to experience what ours has.
I’m doing this for my mum.
I’m doing it for my children and their future.
I’m doing it for every person who has watched someone they love slowly change because of dementia.
And, if I’m completely honest, I’m doing it for me too. Because when this disease makes me feel helpless, this is one way I can fight back.
So here we go again… 26 miles. One very determined daughter. And a 10-hour time that I fully intend to beat. 💪❤️
If you can donate anything at all, no matter how small, I would be incredibly grateful. And if you can’t donate, sharing my page would mean just as much.
Every mile has a reason.
Mine is Mum. ❤️
