I am Harrison Sherwell, a childhood cancer survivor. I was diagnosed with grade 4 brain cancer, Medulloblastoma at the age of 10. I was a regular healthy child that loved playing sports and being around friends, until one day I went to catch a rugby ball and it hit me in the face. I went to hospital with suspected concussion and they found a brain tumour on the CT scan.

I was treated at Sheffield Children’s Hospital from early 2016 to half way through 2017 with surgery, radiotherapy & chemotherapy and then continued to be monitored by the great Oncology Team there until I moved to the adult Late Effects team. Childhood Cancer leaves children with life long side effects like fatuige, medications, social, mental and physical challenges and other subsequent medical conditions. To mark 10 years since my diagnosis of my brain tumour I am going to run from my house to Sheffield Children’s Hospital in a single day a 100Km+ run to raise money for Children with Cancer UK. From having to learn how to walk, talk and eat again after my brain surgery I hope this shows the children fighting their own battles with cancer today that anything is possible in the future. This was a journey I had to make every 2 to 3 days over the 1.5 years I was treated, for chemotherapy, blood transfusions, radiotherapy and so much more. I have now gone on to study medicine at University of East Anglia with the goal of helping children that go through the same experince that I went through. I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the amazing support shown so far and hitting my target all ready helping raise so much money for an amazing charity!!!! So i am increasing my goal to try and push myself more and hopefully bring more awarness and support for this amazing charity.
