Story
Ultra-Marathon completed!
I set off from Richmond Old Deer Park at 7am on Saturday and crossed the finishing line at 3.19am on Sunday, pitifully underdressed in a howling rainstorm!
It was an extraordinary 20 hours of my life that I’ll never forget (or repeat!); my training had only taken me up to 22 miles and I covered 66 so it was by no means a given that I would complete it.
It was brilliantly organised with rest stops every 12-15 km where food, water, carbohydrate gels, electrolytes, and medical care were on offer. The weather was perfect for the most part: overcast, dry & warm but not too hot; as it became darker, the wind picked up a little but in the last hour or so, the heavens opened, the wind doubled and course became increasingly exposed; the last few miles were uphill towards Brighton racecourse which sits on a ridge where it really became clear what ‘exposed' truly meant!
Morale was high from start to finish and if anything, increased in this final hour of vicious weather as I could only laugh at the absurdity of what I had chosen to do!
Thank you so much to everyone for the support and encouragement and of course, for any donation you can make.
Lots of love
Harry
