‘Better Care, Healthier Lives’. We are the charity that exists to support St George’s hospitals and the communities they serve. Every day, our work makes a real difference to patients, their families and friends and the staff who care for them.

Story

Earlier this year, our Dad was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer. The diagnosis shocked all of us and came out of nowhere, particularly given his active and healthy lifestyle (those of you who know him will attest to this!).

The following couple of months were really difficult for the whole family, as we worked through diagnosis, surgery and then treatment, however we were incredibly lucky to have been supported by a number of NHS team's, all of whom provided an incredible level of care and support.

Upon diagnosis, the local doctors rapidly assessed Dad's condition and moved ahead with surgery, and we were fortunate to have had Tim Jones, a Neuro-Oncological clinician, at St George's.

The surgery was high risk and scary, however Tim and his team made all of us feel as comfortable as possible and were incredibly supportive and attentive. Ultimately the surgery was as successful as it could have been, thanks to Tim and the rest of his team.

St George's Hospital, specifically the Neuro-Oncological department, and all the staff made an awful situation a little easier. They do this on a daily basis for all of their patients and families. Our experience would not have been the same without their unwavering support and we will be forever grateful.

A team of us, including four of Dad's kids, other halves and friends will be running the 2024 Brighton Marathon, to show our gratitude and support.

To say thanks to the amazing St George's Neuro-Oncological team, we would like to raise as much money for them as possible and would greatly appreciate any donations.

St George's Neuro-Oncological department want to build a balcony on their ward, to provide patients and their families with a bit of rest bite from the hospital ward. We hope that the money we can raise can help them move a bit closer to this goal.

We also want to show Dad our support in his amazing show of strength over the last 6 months. Whilst running a marathon will never come close to Dad's experience, we hope that we are able to show him just a glimmer of the resilience, determination and strength we have witnessed from him since his diagnosis. We are so proud of you and all love you so much.
