Last November I finished a 60-mile solo walk through Galloway Forest, got signal back for the first time in days, and found out my Grandad Niall had suddenly passed away.

He had given up his career to care for my Nan Elfie through her decline with early onset Alzheimer's. Both of them only in their sixties. He never got to enjoy his retirement.

It made me realise you cannot put off the things that matter. So this July I'm walking from Land's End to John o' Groats : 1,200 miles, 60 days, solo, with just a backpack and a bivvy bag, raising money for Alzheimer's Research UK in their memory.

The route takes in Dartmoor, the Pennines, the Lake District and the Scottish Highlands. In total around 100,000ft of elevation , over three times the height of Everest.

£2 sponsors a mile. Every penny goes toward finding a cure so other families don't have to go through what ours did.
