Harvey's Big Bike Ride for ME Association

David Capewell is raising money for ME Association

Harvey's Big Ride · 30 June 2026

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.

Story

Harvey has decided he want's to do a charity bike ride and cycle over 50 miles in a month for the ME Association - as his mum, Jo, was diagnosed with post-viral ME 7 years ago, not long after he was born.

In Harvey's own words:

"My mum has ME/CFS, which really affects her life and it's very disappointing because she is unable to do many of the things she would like to do that are fun, I want to raise as much money as I can so it can help her get better and we can live a happy life"

There were a couple of really difficult years where she was bed bound for long periods, she was unable to work, and has had to leave her job.

Currently her symptoms are moderate to severe and she is mainly house bound, and needs to rest for 3-4 hours each day.

She is unable to do some "simple" tasks, like the 6 minute walk to take Harvey at school, or take him to his sports clubs, events, or friends parties, and while Harvey doesn't miss out she often does.

We are able to do some things together with careful planning and sometimes need a wheelchair.

Harvey (with dad) will be cycling over 50 miles in the month of June. Please donate to help keep him (and dad) motivated, and help us to support people with ME and their families.

ME (Myalgic Encephalopathy), or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, blights the lives of over 400,000 people in the UK today. The smallest exertion can floor them; their joints and muscles ache unbearably; restful sleep eludes them; and ‘brain fog’ clouds their thinking. It changes lives drastically – disrupting study; making work impossible; and straining family relations to breaking point. Many sufferers cannot leave their homes. There is no known cure.

Please help us to help them.
