Story
I’m running two marathons, Berlin this September and London next April, to raise funds for a cause incredibly close to my heart.
Please consider supporting Tommy’s. They fund vital research and run specialist clinics in partnership with the NHS to help prevent miscarriage and pregnancy loss, saving babies and supporting families through their toughest journeys.
This is personal.
With global fertility rates cratering, 1 child in every classroom in the UK is an IVF baby, but the chances of a live birth are less than 30% per cycle, and not all journeys end in a rainbow. A survey commissioned by 130 UK charities showed that 50% of people have experienced, or know someone who has experienced, at least one form of pregnancy or baby loss.
We were part of these growing numbers.
After 5 years, 6 relentless rounds of IVF, and multiple heartbreaks, we were emotionally and financially drained. I read every medical journal I could find, searching for answers. Perhaps it wasn’t meant to be, but the adoption process was brutal and long, so we were ready to give up.
I stumbled across Tommy’s website and picked up the phone. They had critical information on treatment options. With finances strained, we were giving it one last shot, with help from the brilliant team at Gaia, pioneers in fertility financing.
The IVF round didn’t go smoothly. The pregnancy was high risk.
Defying the odds - less than a 20% chance - in April 2025, after years of uncertainty and pain, our miracle baby Sophia was born.
Throughout that entire journey - through treatment, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care - Tommy’s was by our side.
It really does take a village, even before the baby arrives. I can say, without Tommy’s guidance and the unwavering support from colleagues at CGAM, who were there every single day, we wouldn’t be here today.
So now, it’s my turn to give back. I’m running 52 miles across two cities, with at least 1,000 miles of training. For every family still in the thick of it. For every baby not yet here. For the parents still holding on for their rainbow.
