In April I'll be running the TCS London Marathon for the RNLI, and every single penny raised on this page will go straight to my local station, RNLI Moelfre.

I live on Anglesey, where our family tourism business has welcomed guests to the coast for decades, and RNLI Moelfre is just over a mile from us. Every summer we watch people head out on boats, kayaks and paddleboards, or simply swim off the beach... and those of us who live here are out on the coastal path and in the sea just as much as our visitors are, come rain or shine.

We all know that if something goes wrong, it's the volunteer crew at RNLI Moelfre who drop everything and launch. They've been doing it in all weathers and at all hours, and over the years we've come to know many of the station, team and crew personally...they're neighbours, friends and customers...ordinary people who happen to give up their evenings, their weekends and sometimes their sleep to keep the rest of us safe.

That's why the RNLI has been our chosen charity for the past 50 years, and why we've hosted regular fundraising events, raising many thousands of pounds for the station.

I've also seen what the crew do first-hand. A friend of mine had a very serious accident just around the corner at Dulas estuary, where she fell on land, not at sea. Due to the tricky location, RNLI Moelfre lifeboat was part of the team involved in bringing her to safety. It's a reminder that our crews don't just launch for boats in trouble, they turn out for whoever needs them, wherever the coast makes reaching someone difficult...and none of us know when that person might be us, or someone we love.

Running a marathon is personal too. Two years ago I found out I carry the TERT gene, which in my family has caused pulmonary fibrosis in both my mum and my grandma. Learning that I might face the same thing one day could have frightened me into doing nothing. Instead, I laced up a pair of trainers, joined my local club and started running, determined to build the strongest, healthiest future I can. Two years on, that decision has taken me from my first nervous mile to the start line of the London Marathon!

Why your donation matters:

• RNLI Moelfre costs a staggering £300,000 per year to keep operational, funded by your donations.

• In 2025 alone, RNLI Moelfre were tasked to 47 incidents... every one of them someone's worst day, and someone else's family waiting at home.

• Kitting out a single crew member in full lifeboat gear costs around £2,000, and it's the kit that brings them home safely.

• The RNLI is a charity. It receives no regular government funding, and runs on donations from people like you.

Whatever you can give will go directly towards keeping our lifeboats ready to launch. £10 buys equipment. £50 helps fund training. £300 kits out a crew member's boots and lifejacket.
