Story

As many of you know last November I was rushed into Charring Cross Hospital with a large CSF Leak. My spine had grown a spike so large and sharp that it made a huge tear in my dura, the sack of fluid that keeps the brain and spinal cord afloat, safe and cushioned. As a result my brain had sagged to the back of my head, resting on my neck - the result, I had to lay completely flat for 4 months in hospital. Even raising my head to eat or trying to walk to the bathroom was impossible - the pain was unbearable and the risk of a brain bleed was a real concern!

Fortunately at the end of February I went through a grawling 10 hour spinal surgery, which saw them cut intercostal nerves and move my spinal cord. Whilst the surgery fixed my leak, it came with its own complications.

13 days post surgery, whilst dealing with an impacted bowel, I almost died having woke in the middle of the night to bilateral pulmonary embolisms! The scariest day of my life!

Today I am still living in a great deal of pain and have recently been told my MRI show's permanent spinal cord damage, so I may never fully regain the feeling in my legs.

So, I could sit and I cry... trust me I have cried a lot! But instead with the support of Pearse and my beautiful family, I want to take on the challenge of walking (or maybe even briskly walk!) the Asics 10K for QEF, a charity that supports people just like me!

As you can see, a brain injury can happen to anyone, at anytime! Please donate as much or as little as you can, every penny will help!

All my love, as always,

Hayley x
